PBS America uses Simplestream to launch catch-up service on Freeview Play

PBS America, a British free-to-air television channel, has deployed technology from Simplestream to launch its first on-demand service on Freeview Play devices.

PBS leveraged Simplestream’s proprietary Media Manager and App Platform products, which combine to provide a framework for delivery, presentation, and monetisation of content, cross-platform.

  • Media Manager has been integrated into PBS America’s cloud playout provider Amagi in order to provide a fully automated OTT content workflow.
  • App Platform offers a comprehensive set of out-of-the-box UIs and functionalities to aid content discovery, as well as best-in-class on-demand consumption for end-users, said Simplestream.

Simplestream has integrated with PBS America’s existing tech stack. The combined solution will support PBS America in delivering brand-new content to over 10 million Freeview Play users across the UK, said the company.
